Logistics:
-
These treatments can be as interactive as you want - feedback on pressure, felt or shifting sensations, or sensory needs are welcome
- Wear loose fitting and adjustable clothing please! If your symptoms are dependent on eating or a certain time in your menstrual cycle, we will discuss when an appropriate time to schedule is. Generally eating right beforehand is discouraged.
- Other body work modalities are welcome in your total treatment and plan of care, and my work is very complementary to other modalities such as acupuncture, massage, chiropractic care, and homeopathy. If however, they are done too frequently, or too soon in relation to one of our sessions, it may be superfluous to what you need and make the effectiveness of our results less clear.
- Because of the specificity and intention of the treatment, visits may start as frequent as weekly or bi-weekly, and will eventually decrease in frequency to every 3-5 weeks. This will be specified in the treatment plan and is influenced by your resources and other alternative care.
This light touch and specific modality centers the body's ability to know what it needs to heal. It enables a framework to learn the connections between what the body is working on physically, with what your symptoms are, and return communication back to the area, to allow the body to do the work it wants to do for healing.
Functional manual therapy
Institute of Physical Art with extensive training in CoreFirst postural correction and awareness, and use of neuromuscular activation through Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) to determine the unique presentation of your symptoms
This modality also has the understanding that the body knows what it needs to do to heal, referred to as the Inner Wisdom. I analogize this to addressing the overall nervous system as a whole.
Pelvic floor therapy
The pelvic floor is influenced by your breathing, by the way your feet and hips move, by your digestive and immune processes, and head injuries. It is not just another set of muscles to strengthen or relax, but an aspect of the whole person approach. We can work with pelvic pain and tension of any expression, urinary incontinence, frequency, urging, constipation, pain with intercourse, chronic back, sacrum or hip pain
Nervous system integration
Neural manipulation contributes to improved mobility of the nerve within the structures it traverses - fascia, muscle, hollow spaces in the bones, and organs. Nerve injuries like pinched nerves, compression syndrome, neuropathies, trigeminal neuralgia, concussion and whiplash injuries
Whole Person Integration
Use of coaching techniques like motivational interviewing and strengths finding to explore concepts related to behavior change.
Utilize tools from what you have already learned through other modalities, such as meditation, parts work, or somatic experiencing to deepen interoception
